I’m Dani, a researcher, educator, and music industry professional with a strong commitment to exploring the cultural dynamics of music, particularly the role of women in music scenes. My academic and professional journey has spanned various sectors, from events management and marketing in the music industry to higher education, where I teach and conduct research focused on the intersection of music, gender, and community.
Currently, I am pursuing a PhD, with a research focus on local and translocal music scenes in South Wales, with particular attention to the contribution of female fans in shaping alternative music cultures. My work aims to bring attention to underrepresented voices and to critically examine the ways in which access, gatekeeping, and cultural capital shape these scenes.
In addition to my research, I have held several teaching and leadership positions in higher education, including Senior Lecturer and Course Leader. I am passionate about empowering students to critically engage with the creative industries, fostering both academic and practical skills that will support their professional development.
Alongside my academic work, I am the host of FanGrrrls, a podcast dedicated to examining the influence of women in music fandoms. Through this platform, I seek to highlight the often-overlooked contributions of female fans to the cultural fabric of music.
I welcome opportunities for collaboration, discussion, and further exploration of these themes, particularly in relation to music culture, gender studies, and education.
